It will overwrite your C drive completely.
It actually uses a recovery partition on the drive to restore the factory image.
One of them is troubleshooting and there should be an option to factory restore MSI. Reboot and keep pressing F3 on reboot and you'll get to a blue screen with options. No solution was offered so I did a factory restore on the PC. In the windows event logs I can see it complaining about KERNELBASE.DLL which I googled and this has happened before in the last few years, with dragon center but also with unrelated apps. Then I decided to update dragon center to the latest version from the MSI website, and this broke dragon center. Took it out of box, ran all windows updates (but not the 1903 feature update). This happened to me this week with almost the same model as you (I have the 478 from Best buy).
